Sony Ericsson P5

Rumors started to appear on the Internet about Sony Ericsson’s new handset from smart series. It says that the new device will be announced on November 15 and it will be named as Sony Ericsson P5 (Not Sony Ericsson P3, as we expected). It will be equipped with a huge touch-screen display, GPS module, Wi-FI, 5mp camera, new version of UIQ and what is the most important with have a powerful CPU.

For me, that's fantastic information (As I already said, I'm waiting for the next phone from P line impatiently) and I hear about this phone from more and more sources. It’s a bit pity that it’s only a rumor, though. As we have seen a couple of times, the rumors have just remained rumors. For example, not a long ago there were all kind of rumors that on November 6 something really revolutionary would be be announced. However, as we already know, there wasn't anything like P3 or revolutionary presented, not even a new smart-phone, only some ordinary phones. So let's wait for November 15. Just a week remains until we find out what will be released.

Sony Ericsson Unveils Three New Handsets - K660, W380 and W890

Today is November 7, which means that yesterday Sony Ericsson must have announced its new devices.

They announced two handsets from W series and one from K, unfortunately there is nothing about smartphones.

As we've expected, from W series Walkman branded Sony Ericsson W890i has been announced and from K series - Sony Ericsson K660i. There is also another Walkman branded phone - Sony Ericsson W380i and Sony Ericsson's first broadband USB modem - Sony Ericsson MD300.

To be honest, in addition to those phones, I was expecting something new, or after all something different or even something smart, but... But as I learnt
, on November 15 Sony Ericsson will make another announcements and I hope they justify my hopes.

So let's get back to our novelties. What we can say about those phones? I think official detailed information would be more interesting for you :)

Here we go (Official press release):

The new Sony Ericsson K660 packs landscape Web browsing and dedicated shortcut keys into a classy looking handset targeting a young Web-savvy audience.

London, UK – 6th November 2007 – Sony Ericsson today announced the launch of the K660, an HSDPA (‘mobile broadband’) enabled phone with clever features like illuminated shortcut keys that only become active when surfing the Net, and desktop tickers that provide regular updates from your favourite websites; all designed to make Web browsing on the move as simple and convenient as at your computer.

“Sony Ericsson’s vision is to offer ‘Generation Web’ a mobile internet experience that’s rich, user-friendly and satisfying,” says Martin Winkler, Head of Web Marketing at Sony Ericsson “This Web-optimised phone is a clear step along that journey and will appeal to individuals who are managing their busy lives and social networks online, whether its arranging to meet up for a football match or booking concert tickets.”

Sony Ericsson K660 – Web for Youth

  • Web Optimised (Landscape Browsing and Shortcut Keys) for easy surfing
  • HSDPA for fast surfing, email and download
  • Google Maps for Mobile

The internet as you expect it to be!
The K660 makes browsing the mobile Web straightforward. The phone’s navigation key serves as a “magnetic mouse pointer” when in Web mode, letting you find your way around the page just as you would on a PC. It indicates when a part of the page is clickable and where text input is possible. You can even zoom in for a closer look at text or images.

Pan-and-zoom is just one of the Web shortcut keys that sit under your thumb when viewing Web pages in landscape mode. The K660 also sports a Bookmark function, a single click button that takes you back to your Home Page and an ‘Enter Address’ shortcut; all intended to guide you through the Web that much quicker. .

The information you need – on your terms
The K660 is engineered to ensure that you’re not kept waiting for the news or content that matters to you. Music, video or email – HSDPA technology lets you download it all at speeds that are up to four times faster than regular 3G.

Get there with Google Maps for Mobile
Thanks to Google™Mapsfor Mobile, the K660 keeps you grounded wherever you are, even in a strange city. Find your way instantly with interactive maps that let you zoom in or out, or pan in any direction to orient yourself. Enter your current location and destination and receive point-to-point directions. No fuss, no diversions.

Shoot and share…instantly
The K660 squeezes a 2.0 megapixel camera into its compact frame, making it easy to capture the moment. And since the Web is at your fingertips, it’s just a few clicks to upload your picture to your blogsite and share it instantly with friends and family.

Although packing a whole host of Web applications, this phone is not just for suits. Available in two stand-out colours, a funky ‘lime-on-white’ and a stylish ‘wine-on-black’ colour, the K660 will earn you admiring glances no matter where you are.

The K660 is a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 phone that will be available in selected markets from Q1 2008.

The TrackID™ functionality, available on the W380, the W890 and a host of other Walkman® phones – is one of the phones’ most popular features. Latest figures show that every second, someone, somewhere, is using TrackID™ to identify a song they love.

Take it to the top
The W380 Walkman® phone brings your music to the surface of the phone, allowing you to control what you’re listening to without needing to open the phone. Skip forward or backwards between tracks or pause the music effortlessly. One-touch buttons on the top of the phone light up when the Walkman® player is switched on and a hidden display comes to life, providing track information at a glance.

When not in use, the W380 Walkman® phone looks discreet and laid-back from the outside. But as soon as you receive a call or play music, it comes alive. Choose different light effects for different callers, and see your music ‘dance’ when the phone’s lights match the beat of your favourite song.

Keep your hands off!
Mute your phone with a wave of your hand. Or snooze the alarm if you’re lying in bed. The W380’s Gesture Control feature allows true ‘handsfree’ handling of your calls for the first time – show it off to your friends!

Accessorise it
To enjoy your music discreetly when you’re in public, choose a great headset to go with it. Pick from the Stereo Portable Headset HPM-83 or the Stereo Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-DS200 if you want to stream music wirelessly from your phone.

The W380 is a GSM/EDGE/GPRS 850/1800/1900 and 900/1800/1900 clamshell phone and will be available in selected markets from Q1 2008.

November 6 - The Announcement Day

Tomorrow is a big day for Sony Ericsson and Sony Ericsson fans. Tomorrow, on November 6, Sony Ericsson is going to announce its new devices. For now, we can say nothing for sure about upcoming phones, but eventually we will see what Sony Ericsson has to offer.

We can suppose that Sony Ericsson is going to announce at least one device from the W line, one from the K line and one smartphone device (from P or maybe from M line). We can suppose that Walkman is going to be the one that was leaked not a long ago (I wrote a couple of articles about this phone). From the K line we can suppose that it going to be K660i (Pictures of the phone were spotted on the official (UK) site of Sony Ericsson. You can see those pictures at at bottom of this article) and from smartphones - I hope that it is going to be Sony Ericsson P3. There is also a good chance that this phone may be M610, successor of M600 (We were talking about this phone a couple days ago.)

That’s all what I can say for now,
we have only to wait and see what’s going to happen. The only thing that I can tell you for sure is that we'll keep a close eye on the tomorrow's events and report back to you all the news about the new devices. Stay tuned and don't forget to subscribe to our RSS feed (If you didn't already :))

Sony Ericsson SO905iCS - 5MP Camera With OPTICAL ZOOM

In the nearest future a new Cyber-Shot branded slider from Sony Ericsson, Sony Ericsson SO905iCS will hit shelves. Impressive specifications of the phone make the device one of the most powerful mobile phones at the moment.

Novelty is equipped with a huge 262k color wide VGA display (2,7inch) at resolution of 480 x 864 pixels and 5 mega pixel camera with 3x OPTICAL zoom, LED flash, 16x digital zoom, multi-point focus with 5 mode auto-focus, anti-shake, high speed shooting and face recognition function (WOW that’s really impressive don’t you agree?).

SO905iCS supports GSM/WCDMA networks, MicroSD memory format and a secondary camera for 3G video calls. The dimension of the housing is 113x 50x 20 mm and weights 150g.

The phone is really fantastic, but unfortunately it’s destined only for Japan and will be available for sale in the network of Japanese mobile communications company - NTT DoCoMo (Like Sony Ericsson BRAVIA SO903iTV).

Sony Ericsson M610 FOR SALE!

Long time has passed since FCC approved Sony Ericsson's new business smartphone from M line, long awaited Lizy - Sony Ericsson M610, successor of the M600, the phone whose announcement we are waiting till now, but at least one prototype example has leaked and has been spotted on German E-bay on sale for 1000EUR.

All what we can say about the novelty's major specification is that, there is no camera, as on the M600 and QWERTY keyboard implemented similar to Sony Ericsson P1. The OS of the device is Symbian OS UIQ3.

The device is equipped with a 320х240 QVGA 262k color touchscreen display and is intended to work in WCDMA (UMTS)/GSM 900/1800/1900mhz networks. The volume of the built-in memory is 160mb, but the device supports Memory Stick Micro memory format and it can be increased with М2 memory card.

The communication capabilities are provided by the Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b module, Bluetooth with A2DP support and an infrared port. The dimensions of the housing is 55x106x17 mm and the weight is 116 g.

Unfortunately that's all what I can say for now and I must repeat that this phone is only prototype and the specifications may not be entirely true. As you know there was no formal confirmation, but there is a real chance that the phone will be announced on November 6. So we don't have to wait too long.
